CHSU’s CPhA and Phi Delta Chi Chapter Raises Funds for Valley Children’s Hospital

CHSU’s California Pharmacists Association (CPhA) and Phi Delta Chi chapter and hosted a Cranes for the Cure fundraiser for the months of August through November and raised an incredible amount of $685.

All the proceeds from the fundraiser were given to Valley Children’s Hospital, one of the largest pediatric health care networks in the United States that provides the Central Valley with highly specialized medical and surgical services exclusively for children.

Taking the lead of the Cranes for the Cure fundraiser was CHSU student and Phi Delta Chi Professional and Service Chair, Tiffany Do.

Tiffany says, “I was inspired to do this fundraiser because I have been diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma, a cancer that primarily effects children and young adults.” She adds, “With the support of CPhA and Phi Delta Chi, we wanted to help those who are dealing with pediatric cancers or are in need of pediatric services.”

This fundraiser started because of the old Japanese tale of the 1000 paper cranes, in which a person folds 1,000 origami paper cranes to wish someone happiness and good luck. The idea behind the paper cranes was to give to pediatric cancer patients to help them heal.

“My Phi Delta Chi brothers made 1,000 paper cranes for me when I delivered the news that I have cancer. Now I wanted to make 1,000 cranes for Valley Children’s in order to wish them happiness and good luck for their patients.” Tiffany said.

On December 2, Tiffany Do, members of Phi Delta Chi and students of CHSU presented the check and 1,000 folded paper cranes to Valley Children’s Hospital.

She says, “My greatest passion is helping the community, and Phi Delta Chi, Delta Gamma chapter and CPhA was honored to provide this gift to Valley Children’s in hopes to show that these patients are not alone.”

Many thanks to Tiffany Do, CPhA, and Phi Delta Chi for hosting this fundraiser and inspiring the campus community to contribute to such a worthy cause.
