CHSU Faculty Attends the 2018 American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy Annual Conference

California Health Sciences University was well represented at the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) Annual Conference on July 21-25, 2018 in Boston, Massachusetts. Wendy Duncan, PhD, Dean of the College of Pharmacy and Provost; David Fuentes, PharmD, SHRM-CP, BCPP, BCGP, Executive Associate Dean for the College of Pharmacy; Jeremy Hughes, PharmD, Assistant Dean for Student Affairs and Enrollment; Will Ofstad, PharmD, BCPS, CDE, Assistant Dean for Education; Nicole Nielsen, PharmD, BCACP, APh, Assistant Professor of Clinical Sciences; and Allen Keshishian Namagerdi, PharmD, MS, Academic Fellow and Post-Graduate Instructor of Clinical Sciences, were all in attendance.
CHSU Faculty were involved in many different aspects at the conference. Drs. Nicole Nielsen and Will Ofstad had the opportunity to present a poster about Team-Based Learning (TBL) titled, “Preparing Advanced Practice Pharmacists: Developing Physical Assessment Competence Through Simulation, Team-Based Learning and Inter-professional Education.”
Dr. Allen Keshishian Namagerdi attended the Teacher’s Seminar, which is an intensive training program on pharmacy education. As a recent graduate from CHSU’s College of Pharmacy, this was a great experience for Dr. Keshishian to receive mentorship about academia.
Drs. Jeremy Hughes and David Fuentes collaborated with colleagues from different universities to lead three Special Sessions, titled Drug Screening Our Pharmacy Students – A National Overview and Tips for Implementation with Purdue University and Butler University; Co-Curricular Delivery of Career Preparatory Activities to Increase Self-Awareness and Student Success in Securing Employment with Chapman University and Roseman University; and Co-Curricular Inter-professional Activities Foster Team-Readiness, Professionalism, and Development of Self-Awareness with Pacific University.
Dr. Will Ofstad worked with colleagues from University of Minnesota, University of Tennessee, and University of Florida to speak at a Special Session on: Navigating the Storm: Coaching and Assessing Teamwork Skills.
While at the conference, Dr. Jeremy Hughes was appointed as Chair of the Student Services Special Interest Group, which is tasked with overseeing initiatives in the areas related to admissions, student affairs, student wellness, and many other related areas.
Dr. David Fuentes was officially inducted into his three-year term on the Editorial Board for the American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education (AJPE), and will serve as the representative for CHSU to the AACP House of Delegates.
CHSU is thankful for the opportunity to educate, as well as learn valuable information at the AACP Annual Conference, and looks forward to attending next year.
