CHSU Healthcare Simulation Specialist Receives IMSH Horizon Award

The Horizon Award from the International Meeting on Simulation in Healthcare (IMSH) recognizes up-and-coming operations specialists who show excellence in their work with healthcare simulation. As a Simulation Operations Specialist, Cathy Burford received the Horizon Award during the IMSH Conference 2024 in San Diego, California on January 20-24, 2024 for her integral role in medical student learning and clinical skills development at the California Health Sciences University College of Osteopathic Medicine (CHSU-COM).

Burford has grown in her role at the CHSU-COM, always seeking out opportunities to expand her knowledge base in simulation, manikins, technology, and program administration.

“I am inspired to do my job because it allows me to blend my passion for simulation and my desire for continual personal and professional growth,” said Burford. “I find joy in being a part of creating a positive and engaging environment for our students.”

Receiving the award affirmed Burford’s efforts have resulted in the success of the Simulation Center in executing healthcare simulation through teamwork, expertise, collaboration, and research using innovative technology and standards of best practices. She was also instrumental in getting the Simulation Center accredited by the Simulation in Healthcare in Teaching/Education.

CHSU congratulates Burford on this honorable achievement and for her continued contribution to healthcare simulation and medical education.
