CHSU Hosts a Day of Service to Give Back to the Community

California Health Sciences University recently hosted their first Community Engagement Day where students, faculty and staff spent the day volunteering at local non-profits in the Fresno and Clovis areas. The event was held on Wednesday, April 4th and nine local non-profit organizations participated including:

  • Cal Vet Fresno
  • Clovis Senior Activity Center
  • Community Food Bank
  • Fresno Arts Council
  • Hinds Hospice
  • Poverello House
  • Shinzen Friendship Garden
  • Terry’s House
  • Tree Fresno

Over 200 volunteers participated in Community Engagement Day, some of the activities included preparing and serving meals, cleaning up, landscaping, engaging with senior citizens, organizing thrift store merchandise and distributing food to those in need.
“The purpose of this event was to increase awareness of our community, develop cultural competency of the various populations in the Central Valley and provide an opportunity for our students, faculty and staff to give back to the community ,” said Florence Dunn, President of CHSU.
