CHSU Joins Fresno Diabetes Collaborative for Walk with a Doc Event
October 6, 2017
CHSU is excited to participate in the “Walk with a Doc: Stop Diabetes” event at Vang Pao Elementary (4100 E. Heaton Ave., Fresno, CA 93702) on November 4th, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., in recognition of National Diabetes Month. The event is hosted by Fresno Diabetes Collaborative and includes a free walk which will be led by Jesus Rodriquez, MD.
Dr. Rodriguez is a family practice specialist for Kaiser Permanente who graduated with honors from the University of Washington School of Medicine. With over 18 years of diverse experience, he is an advocate for Latino health and healthy living.
The walk is powered by the Fresno-Madera Medical Society to encourage people to walk at least 30 minutes a day to reduce risk of coronary heart disease, osteoporosis, cancer, diabetes, and to improve blood pressure, blood sugar, and mood. Healthy snacks, lifestyle tips, and resources will be provided along with the walk.
The walk and talk, health screenings, food, and children’s games will all be free to the public. This includes medical checks by California Health Sciences University students, education courses for kids by Pacific District Conference, and food distribution by the Community Food Bank. Fresno State’s Health on Wheels will be there to provide checkups for blood sugar level, blood pressure, cholesterol, and body mass index. Other sponsors for this event are Community Medical Centers, Every Neighborhood Partnership, and The County of Fresno.
