CHSU Medical Students Achieve Rank of Lieutenant in United States Army

July 28, 2023

Six second-year medical students achieved the rank of lieutenant in the United States Army before they returned to California Health Sciences University (CHSU) to begin their second year of medical school.

During the summer of 2023, CHSU Army Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP) team completed their Direct Commission Course and Basic Officer Leadership Course to become full-fledged lieutenants in the United States Army.

Tasks and challenges included demonstrating proficiency in the CS gas chamber with an M50 mask, completing a land navigation course, zeroing and qualifying on arms training, and providing immediate trauma care and MEDEVAC in a simulated combat zone.

The students had the privilege to meet with Captain Christine Kim, Army Health Care Recruiter OIC, while she was recruiting during the first week of classes at the CHSU College of Osteopathic Medicine campus.
