CHSU Pharmacy Students Host Chronic Kidney Disease Awareness Event at Sikh Temple
March 13, 2017
Student National Pharmaceutical Association (SNPhA) members and others CHSU students organized an event to raise awareness about Chronic Kidney Disease and monitor blood pressure at a local Sikh temple on March 12, 2017. With the support of CHSU faculty member, Stanley Snowden, PharmD, MSCR, Assistant Professor of Clinical Sciences, the students educated approximately 40 people about how to prevent the kidney disease through control of blood pressure and diabetes.
With many CHSU students belonging to the local Punjabi community, this temple was chosen because it hosts one of the largest Punjabi populations in Fresno. Several of the CHSU students spoke Punjabi very effectively to the patients that stopped by the table. Seema Rai (P3) stated, “It was a great experience for us to help them and discuss their health in their own language. They were very grateful.”
Most of the patients had already been diagnosed with hypertension and diabetes and they were eager to have their blood pressure taken and medications reviewed.
