CHSU Provost Co-Presents “Developing the Next Generation of Healthcare Providers” Keynote at PMI Region 7 Leadership Summit

On Saturday, March 18, 2017, Dr. Hagop Arfarian, Associate CMIO for Community Medical Centers and Associate Clinical Professor for UCSF and Dr. Wendy Duncan, Provost and Interim Dean of Pharmacy at CHSU, delivered the keynote address, “Developing Next Generation of Healthcare Providers,” at the 2017 PMI Leadership Institute Region 7 Meeting at Tenaya Lodge in Yosemite, CA.
Here is a synopsis for the “Developing the Next Generation of Healthcare Providers” Keynote:
As the demand for quality healthcare services continues to increase, the need for the next generation of healthcare providers is growing. Our colleges and universities alongside industry partners are working together to develop new healthcare professionals. This presentation will discuss how these two educational leaders are using innovative practices to attract, educate, and retain healthcare providers in underserved regions.

Dr. Afarian’s bio:
Dr. Hagop Afarian, M.D is the Associate CMIO for Community Medical Centers (CMC) and Associate Clinical Professor for UCSF. He is board certified in Emergency Medicine, having received his medical degree at Stanford University and completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at UCSF, Fresno where he earned the title of Chief Resident. Dr. Afarian has been invited to speak many times on emergency and wilderness medicine and medical informatics. On top of teaching fellows, residents, and medical students in the Emergency Department at Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, he also trains residents and faculty on the CMC electronic medical record system. Most recently, Dr. Afarian has achieved board certification in the subspecialty of informatics attesting to his commitment to ensuring our EMR systems optimally promote the health of the community we serve.
