CHSU Student, Kenya Covarrubias Receives $1,000 Adelante Mujer Scholarship
September 14, 2017
Kenya Covarrubias, a second year College of Pharmacy student at CHSU, was awarded an Adelante Mujer scholarship valued at $1,000 this week due to her hard work and involvement in the community.
Kenya has proudly achieved a 4.0 GPA and has enjoyed being involved in research programs regarding drug discovery and the link between pesticides and cancer. She is also a leader in both the Prospero program and Student National Pharmaceutical Association (SNPhA). At a recent, SNPhA competition, Kenya and her team won second place in a 3-day camp involving the encouragement and exposure of Hispanic and bilingual high school students to a career in pharmacy.
According to Dr. Charles Douglas, Assistant Professor at CHSU: “Kenya has carefully thought out career goals and has taken an extra effort to immerse herself in the role the clinical pharmacist’s plays in the health of the community, increasing the number of minority pharmacists, and access to healthcare for the undeserved.”
Dr. Carolyn Harris, Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment at CHSU, praised Kenya as someone who is “driven by improving the lives of others, not titles, position, or achievements for her resume.”
CHSU congratulates Kenya for her much-deserved scholarship and recognition as an outstanding student.
