CHSU was represented by eight first year College of Pharmacy students, which included So Mei Chau, Jacqueline Ekmalian, Shannon Kim, Tina Nguyen, Kathleen O’Connor, Ryan Penn, Blia Vang, and Daniel Winn. Dr. Patty Havard, Research & Professor of Clinical Sciences, and Dr. Jeremy Hughes, Assistant Professor of Clinical Sciences, were the CHSU CAPSLEAD faculty advisors who attended the conference.
The students presented on the importance of bringing awareness to students and professionals in the field of healthcare about the health disparities in the Fresno community.
“As pharmacists and healthcare professionals we are/will be equipped with the knowledge of taking care of hypertensive, diabetic, dyslipidemic, ect. patients, but how wonderful would it be to equip our communities with the knowledge to prevent such chronic diseases? Further down my academic career I hope to be executing some of the ideas that will be created to help these communities.” says student, Jacqueline Ekmalian. She adds, “As I continue to collaborate with my team and Dr. Havard, I hope to grow my leadership skills enough to engage much of the community to caring for themselves with a preventative mindset.”
