On Saturday, June 2, California Health Sciences University (CHSU) students participated in University Feria De Salud, a community health fair that took place at Manchester Center in Fresno, California.
Those who attended the health fair received information about free health programs and services offered by different organization and clinics. The community also was able to receive free inscriptions and health exams.
CHSU students conducted diabetes screening and education, stroke risk education, and blood glucose and blood pressure checks at the event. The students involved were Salam Kabbani, Lalitkumar Rajora, Carrie Vue, Nancy Ma, Raymond Vo, Harneet Kaur, Raymond Alcaraz, Morgan Montelongo, Deniz Sadeghi, and Raffi Apkarian. The faculty preceptors were Dr. Patty Havard, Dr. Yuchen Wang, and Dr. Nicole Nielsen.
“This was my first time volunteering as a pharmacy student for the Feria De Salud. During this event, I gained a very rewarding experience. I was able to perform blood pressure screenings for Spanish speaking patients as well as provide stroke awareness information,” said student, Carrie Vue. She added, “During this fair, I saw the huge impact of providing a free health fair for populations who are uninsured or with limited health access. By providing this health fair, these patients were able to receive screenings on glucose and blood pressure by our very own pharmacists and pharmacy students.”
