CHSU Welcomes New Dean for Proposed College of Osteopathic Medicine

California Health Sciences University is pleased to announce John Graneto DO, MEd, FACOP, FACOEP-dist has joined CHSU as the Dean of the Proposed College of Osteopathic Medicine effective November 1, 2017. Dr. Graneto’s swift appointment will allow CHSU to continue moving forward with the accreditation process, constructing the permanent campus, and will help achieve our goal to accept students in the Proposed College of Osteopathic Medicine as early as fall 2019.
Prior to joining CHSU, Dr. Graneto served as Associate Dean and Professor of Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine at the Kansas City University College of Osteopathic Medicine. His past service also includes, serving as Founding Chair of the Department of Clinical Integration and Pediatric Residency Program Director in the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Midwestern University Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is a Fellow of the National Academy of Osteopathic Medical Educators and is Past-Chair of AACOM’s Society of Osteopathic Medical Educators.
Dr. Graneto is a 1986 graduate of the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. He received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio and his Master of Education (Health) at the University of Cincinnati. He completed his Pediatric Residency and Emergency Medicine Residency at Midwestern University Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Dr. Graneto succeeds Douglas Wood, DO, PhD, FACOI, who was appointed as Dean for the Proposed College of Osteopathic Medicine in January 2017. After serving as Dean for four Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine, including CHSU, Dr. Wood decided to pursue consulting opportunities to advance Medical Education on a national level. Dr. Wood’s service to CHSU is sincerely appreciated, especially for his efforts in launching proposed College of Osteopathic Medicine at CHSU.
