October 3, 2018

On Saturday, September 29th, sixty five students officially became Doctor of Pharmacy candidates during the CHSU White Coat Ceremony at the Paul Shaghoian Memorial Concert Hall at Clovis North High School.
At the White Coat Ceremony, the Class of 2022 walked across stage and received their white coats to mark the beginning of their professional pharmacy education.
Jeremy Hughes, PharmD, Assistant Dean for Student Affairs and Enrollment and Assistant Professor, led the ceremony and a welcome address was provided by Wendy Duncan, PhD, FNAP, Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost.
The event was sponsored by Walgreens, Rite Aid, Rx relief, and California Pharmacists Association. Joseph Tran, PharmD, Registered Manager of Local Specialty Pharmacy from Walgreens gave special remarks, followed by Heidi Peterson, PharmD, MBA, Director of College Relations and Professional Recruitment from Rite Aid.
David Fuentes, PharmD, MSOL.c., SHRM-CP, Executive Associate Dean and Department Chair of Clinical Sciences, accompanied by each student’s faculty mentor, presented the students with their white coats.
Upon receiving their coat, each student signed the Pledge of Professionalism, which was written by selected students as a commitment to maintain high professional standards. McKenna Salazar, MAEd/AET, Director of Academic Affairs and the newest cohort class mentor, led the recital of the Pledge of Professionalism with the students.
The keynote address was spoken by Admiral Mike “Wizzard” McCabe, CEO and President of Ryan International. Admiral McCabe has over 30 years of experience in developing and commanding high performing teams as the Director of Air Warfare for the U.S. Navy and is also well-known for his role in consulting on the movie Top Gun.
The ceremony was followed by a reception held at the CHSU campus, where students and families celebrated this major milestone.
Thank you to all those who attended the White Coat Ceremony and the friends and family, as well as CHSU’s board of trustees, administration, faculty, and staff, who supported the Class of 2022. We would also like to thank our event sponsors for supporting our students. We look forward to all the accomplishments that the students will make in the next four years.
