CHSU Celebrates World Diabetes Day with Review Article Published by Assistant Professor of Pharmacology
November 14, 2017
Sreenivasulu N. Pattipati, PhD, Assistant Professor of Pharmacology, published a review article for Cronicon’s EC Pharmacology and Toxicology titled, “Insulin Resistance: Recent Advances in Pathogenesis, Molecular Mechanisms and Clinical Relevance”. Coauthors of this article are Anil Kumar and Ruchika Mittal.
The review article was written to provide critical information about insulin resistance corresponding for better understanding of pathogenesis and pathophysiology hallmarks, markers as well as exploitation of better drug targets.
Insulin resistance makes it difficult for cells to use insulin, causing a rise in blood sugar. This can also lead to a rise in blood insulin level. If gone unnoticed, type 2 diabetes can arise from these conditions. According to the article, roughly 24% of people over 20 years of age in America have insulin resistance. Although insulin resistance poses many risks, there are research opportunities to find a cure for the disorder.
Dr. Pattipati currently teaches Pharmacology III at CHSU, and serves within the Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences department. He specializes in Treatment Resistant Depression and Neuropathic Pain as they are significant health threats that require attention. Aside from teaching at CHSU, he is an editor for EC Pharmacology and Toxicology Journal Reviewer; Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics; Brain Research; Psychopharmacology; Indian Journal of Pharmacology; Journal of Medicinal Food; Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Behavior; and Pharmacological Reports. Dr. Pattipati earned his Ph.D in Neuropsychopharmacology from Panjab University in Chandigarh, India.
