California Health Sciences University (CHSU) held its first annual White Coat Ceremony for the College of Pharmacy on Saturday, October 4, 2014. Each year, the CHSU College of Pharmacy places the white lab coat on new pharmacy students as part of their entry into the profession. This year, 73 members of the inaugural pharmacy class of 2018 participated.
“The White Coat is a distinctive symbol of professionalism – the art of establishing and maintaining an effective, covenantal relationship with all patients,” stated Dr. David Hawkins, Dean of Pharmacy. “May it always symbolize the character and qualities of a good and noble practitioner of the pharmacy profession.”
In witness of their friends, families and faculty, the pharmacy students read the “Pledge of Professionalism,” developed by the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy Council of Deans Task Force on Professionalism, demonstrating their acceptance of the expectations and responsibilities of the profession of pharmacy.
Mr. Jon R. Roth, Chief Executive Officer for the California Pharmacists Association, delivered the keynote address.
About CHSU College of Pharmacy CHSU’s Doctor of Pharmacy program is a four year, post-baccalaureate program and the first cohort of students started in August 2014. CHSU is now accepting applications for the second cohort of students that start in August 2015. Qualified applicants will be invited to a day-long interview and top candidates will be invited to begin their professional school career at the first pharmacy school in the Central Valley.
