CHSU Hosts Madera Unified High School Students Participating in ePathway Academy
July 18, 2018
This year, CHSU College of Pharmacy campus was selected to host sixteen Madera Unified high school students participating in a 5-day health care pathway program through the ePathway Academy. The students were accompanied by faculty from Fresno State, Fresno Pacific, and teachers from Madera Unified and the experience had a focus on critical thinking and entrepreneurship in health care.
Richele Kleiser, VP for Marketing and Communications, helped to introduce the students to the CHSU Doctor of Pharmacy program and the pharmacy career. Drs. Delwar Hussain, Farid Khalafalla, and Yuwei Wang provided a hands-on antacid emulsion activity in the Compounding lab that the students really enjoyed.
CHSU pharmacy students Peng Yang and Yvonne Phan facilitated clinical activities in medication therapy management (MTM) and vaccinations to help the students understand the expansive practice opportunities and interprofessional collaboration in health care. They also spoke about why they chose a career in pharmacy and their pathway to pharmacy school to inspire the students. The participants also learned more about the articulation partner institutions and pathway programs available at CHSU, including the CHSU/CVS Health Prospero program.
The participants and the accompanying instructors thoroughly enjoyed the experience and learned so much more about health care and the pharmacy profession, including health information about medications and vaccinations that can help them today. We hope to see many of these students back at CHSU College of Pharmacy in the future!
