2016 Health Fair Community Impact Report

November 7, 2016

CLOVIS, Calif. – California Health Sciences University announced the release of our 2016 Health Fair Impact Report.  The second annual free health fair was held, Saturday October 1, 2016 on our College of Pharmacy campus in Clovis.
During the health fair, California Health Sciences University (CHSU) Doctor of Pharmacy candidates provided 350 guests with a free health assessment and wellness screenings and 196 guests received a free flu vaccination.
The 2016 Health Fair Impact Report demonstrates California Health Sciences University’s meaningful contribution in identifying chronic disease risk, prevention and disease management education in a population experiencing barriers to regular health care visits.  Fifty percent of adults participating in the health screening exit survey reported they had not been to a doctor in more than a year and 27% reported not having a primary care provider or medical coverage.  Identified participants without a medical provider or medical coverage were connected to a health service center and medical coverage resources.
“The free health fair is an excellent opportunity for CHSU to live out the College mission of transforming pharmacy into a primary care profession,” Wendy Duncan, PhD, Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, Provost and Interim Dean of Pharmacy. “Our pharmacy students lead the implementation of seven clinical service areas and captured the assessment and screening outcome data,” Duncan added.
The CHSU 2016 Health Fair provided free health care services to people from nine communities in 26 unique zip codes between Tipton and Coarsegold, California.
