California Health Sciences University Confers 54 Doctorate of Pharmacy Degrees at the Class of 2019 Graduation Ceremony

California Health Sciences University (CHSU) hosted a Graduation Ceremony for the College of Pharmacy on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Clovis Hills Community Church. This is the second cohort of Doctor of Pharmacy students, with 54 graduates in their class – And now 54 pharmacists who will begin serving the health care needs of the Valley and beyond. The University is proud to announce that 88% of the graduating class are from California, and 58% of those are from the Central Valley. In addition, 20% of the class are the first generation in their family to attend college.
At the commencement, President Florence Dunn addressed an auditorium filled with the friends and families of the graduates, staff and faculty, and the Board of Trustees. An inspirational graduation address was delivered by Dr. Thomas Patton, Research Consultant for CHSU.
The hooding of the graduates was performed by Dr. Jeremy Hughes, Assistant Dean for Student Affairs and Enrollment; Dr. Patty Havard, Associate Dean for Interprofessional Community Engagement; and Dr. William Ofstad, Assistant Dean for Education. The graduates received their Doctor of Pharmacy diploma from Dr. Wendy Duncan, Provost and Dean for the College of Pharmacy.
The class then recited the ‘Oath of a Pharmacist,’ led by Dr. David Fuentes, Executive Associate Dean for the College of Pharmacy, and read the class ‘Pledge of Professionalism,’ led by Dr. Lina See Vang, Class of 2019 President. Dr. Leanna Winnick, Class of 2019 graduate, was chosen to speak at the ceremony by the class.
Following the ceremony, the newly graduated cohort and their families were invited to a reception to celebrate this accomplishment.
