Congratulations to Nicole Nielsen, PharmD, BCACP, APh, Assistant Professor of Clinical Sciences for receiving her Advanced Practice Pharmacist (APh) certification.
According to the Advanced Practice Pharmacist guidelines, the APhs have the authority to “perform patient assessments, order and interpret all drug therapy-related tests, refer patients to other healthcare providers, and participate in the evaluation and management of diseases and health conditions in collaboration with other healthcare providers” (source: appharmacist.com).
Dr. Nielsen currently practices in a Federally Qualified Health Center, which provides care to the underserved population in the Fresno County.
“Now that I have obtained my Advanced Practice Pharmacist license, I will be able to continue to provide direct patient care and help improve health outcomes in the Central Valley,” Dr. Nielsen says. She added, “In the next coming years, I can foresee that the APh will be a vital necessity for billing and reimbursement for pharmacy services especially in the Ambulatory Care setting. I hope to help be a mentor and guide to pharmacy students who would like to pursue this license.”
